Fayette County Busted Mugshots is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. For a current answer or a copy of a record, contact the agency that holds it.
Where Fayette Records Are Held
For county custody and booking records, start with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and Jail. The official pages checked on August 20, 2026 did not show a public searchable roster or routine booking-photo feed. The county inmate handout directs custody questions to VINE, while the sheriff's FOIA channel is the written path for a releasable arrest or booking record and any available photograph.

A focused FOIA request should name the record, date or date range, arresting agency, and booking or case identifier when known. It may ask for booking and arrest times, charges as booked, bond information, a release or transfer date if available, and a releasable booking photograph. If a field is withheld, ask for the statutory basis. The sheriff's posted schedule says inspection is free, the first 50 black-and-white pages are free, later black-and-white copies are 15 cents per page, and a CD or DVD is 35 cents. Confirm fees and media rules with the records officer before relying on them.
- Current Fayette custody or a release alert: use VINELink or the Illinois Attorney General's VINE information page. VINE handles custody and notifications, not booking photos.
- Booking record or photograph: send the request to the sheriff's FOIA officer at the address or email above. If a city officer made the arrest, request the incident report from that city and the county booking record from the sheriff when jail intake occurred.
- Fayette court case or disposition: contact the Fayette Circuit Clerk at Fayette County Courthouse, 221 S. 7th Street, Room 112, Vandalia, IL 62471, 618-283-5009, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The direct online case route is the Fayette Judici page.
- Vandalia incident report: use the Vandalia Police Department for police contact at 219 South Fifth Street and 618-283-2131, and its FOIA/OMA page for the posted request form and Public Safety Building records contact.
- St. Elmo or Ramsey incident: contact St. Elmo Police at 108 W. 4th Street, St. Elmo, 618-829-5113. Its official page says it patrols St. Elmo, Brownstown, and Ramsey. For municipal records, use St. Elmo City Hall or the Ramsey village contact page; Ramsey's former police department was dissolved in 2022.
- Illinois state custody: search the Illinois Department of Corrections Individual in Custody Search. A current IDOC result is separate from a Fayette County Jail booking and may include a state-custody photo.
- Federal or immigration custody: use the Bureau of Prisons locator, the ICE Online Detainee Locator, or the U.S. Marshals custody information for the agency involved. These are not Fayette booking-photo databases.
For a possible warrant affecting the reader personally, the Fayette inmate handout says the sheriff does not provide outstanding-warrant information by telephone and directs inquiries to the jail lobby. A court, an attorney, or the responsible law-enforcement office is safer than relying on an unofficial lookup page. The Wanted Fugitives page explains that no verified routine county wanted list was located.
